Day 3 of the Adventure

We woke this morning to the sun shimmering on the fallen snow and the sound of vehicles beginning to make their way out onto the highway. After spending breakfast in the lobby with a few of our newly made snow friends and swapping stories of the day/night before we began to wonder if we were going to be able to leave the small town of Brinkley. We were hearing about the wreckage all along I-40, trucks and cargo littered the roads. One gentleman said that it took them 11 hours to go only 4 miles!!! We were sure glad we decided to get off the road when we did.

Andrew and I ventured out to crank up the car, throw a few snow balls and then walk to the overpass to take a look at I-40 and the traffic. We noticed very little traffic and those trucks and cars that ventured out were holding speeds of 40-45 mph. We proceeded to make the decision to get back on the road and loaded up the Montero and head out toward Little Rock which was only 60 miles away. Because of the conditions of the road (notice the picture Andrew took of a line miles long of trucks going the opposite way) it took two hours to arrive in Little Rock and from there we decided to make it to Fort Smith, Arkansas to end our day. Once settled we ventured out to dinner where Andrew got his picture with the Duke!!! John Wayne is one of Andrew's favorites, we watch his movies a lot. The restaurant was called Big Jake's, however, we didn't get to eat there because peanuts were on the ground and we wanted to be careful with Andrew's peanut allergies. We ended up at Frank's which is an Italian place and the atmosphere permeated with Frank Sinatra music and memorabilia!!

Whew, what a day. As April prayed asking the Lord to guard us and place His Angels around our vehicle today, we sure did feel His presence and experienced His protection! So tomorrow we head out waiting to see what the adventure holds for us. We have altered our plans and will be stopping in Amarillo, TX tomorrow night!

Seeing Christ as Central,

Jim

  1. Glad you guys are safe! And since you're going to Amarillo, I recommend either the Big Texan (Steaks) or Cattle Call (BBQ). And don't forget the Cadillac Ranch!!!!
